How to control temperature in an offset smoker?

I get elected to smoke turkeys and briskets frequently. However, I think my results are more luck than anything else. I cant seem to get a firm handle on controlling the temp inside the smoker. I have an offset smoker... The smoke stack has no damper, so I use a piece of wood to regulate that end. I have a damper on the firebox. How do I use these two to control the temp? How to they relate to temperature? It would seem that sometimes adding more air cools, sometimes it fuels the fire and makes it hotter than hell.... Please help. How to control temperature in an offset smoker?
Don't worry about the smokestack damper. Remove the piece of wood. Only use the damper in the firebox. To lower the temp close the damper %26amp; to raise the temp open the damper. More oxygen means more heat. Make your adjustments a little at a time. Soon you will know your smoker well enough to know how open or closed it will need to be. Having two adjustables creates too many variables to contend with. Get yourself a remote thermometer (Polder).

Stick the probe end through an apple or onion %26amp; set it a grill level while you're cooking. It will be easier to maintain your low temps. You can set an alarm in the thermometer to let you know when the heat is out of a certain range, too high or too low. You may also want to get a second thermometer for the meat so you'll know when it reaches the correct internal temp. Using these thermometers also means you won't have the door open as often. ';If you're lookin you ain't cookin';.

I use another remote thermometer %26amp; keep the probe in the meat. That way I can monitor grill temp %26amp; interior meat temp without ever opening the door. How to control temperature in an offset smoker?
Vert smokers are made for the occasional smoker or what they would call in the auto industry an automatic, what you have is a ';stick-shift';, it takes alot more practice to get the hang of it. One thing that stands out is, and I'll guess at this, you want to control the temp ';down';, this will take that practice, start with half the amount of wood you normally would, I'll assume you have a temp gauge and a timer, set the timer for one hour when you have your wood ignited, record the time and temp when the wood grays, close draft dampener, wait 15 minutes record temp, then do the reverse.

Add a measured amount of wood and start the monitoring again. After a few readings you will have the data you'll need for control of the amount of ';heat';, I sure hope you noticed I said ';heat'; and not smoke which actually only happens in the first hour of ';smoking';.
Well the dampers do have a lot to do with it.

I also use a mix of charcoal and whatever type of wood I am using (hickory, apple, pecan)

I start with 2 chimney starters of charcoal and about 5 lumps of wood and get my temp under control 200-225 before I Even add the meat. I have the side damper open about 1/4 of and inch and the stack damper almost closed.

From that point I control with the stack damper. If the temp starts to drop I open it. If it starts climbing I close it off. That will slow the airflow over the fire.

A refrigeration system with two-temperature controls has?

A. a single compressor connected to multiple condensers.

B. multiple compressors and evaporators connected together.

C. one compressor with multiple evaporators operating at different temperatures.

D. multiple compressors and condensers operating at different temperatures.A refrigeration system with two-temperature controls has?

if you wish to steal answers from other people and pass them off as your own, you should be taking Politics :-)A refrigeration system with two-temperature controls has?
Most likely C. One temperature control will be for one space - say one for storing frozen meat at -20oC %26amp; the other for chilled goods at say +4oC. The temperature controls simply shut the refrigerant flow to the space they control on or off. The system itself only runs when one or both of the control valves are open. When they are both shut the pressure on the low pressure side of the system falls %26amp; the compressor cuts out on low pressure.

How do I fuse glass in a kiln by controlling the temperature myself?

I don't have a temperature controller for my kiln, so I have decided to control its temperature by turning the kiln on and off at the mains.

This will work, but I was wondering if anybody had any guidline times for fusing?

And I am using glass from bottles, to recycle, will this fuse successfully?

I'm sure it will.

thanks in advance for your answers. How do I fuse glass in a kiln by controlling the temperature myself?
does your kiln have a cone system? if so buy the cone that will get you to the appropriate temp. I don't think I've ever seen a kiln that doesn't shut off. it would be very dangerous to just leave any kiln on indefinitely

I need help on finding the sensor that controls the temperature gauge and the radiator fans?

I have 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo. I was driving and the check engine light came on. I had no idea that the temperature gauge when down and the fans turned on. When i turn the car on in the morning fans turn on and the temperature gauge is down. I forgat to mention i changed the antifreeze two days before.I need help on finding the sensor that controls the temperature gauge and the radiator fans?
you need to re-check the coolant level and make sure its completely full,if its not that will make this happen, the fans shouldn't come on until the car heats up,their not supposed to come on a soon as you start the car unless the air conditioner is on,so you might want to go back over all of this and check it,there could be a chance its really low on coolant, good luck with it.I need help on finding the sensor that controls the temperature gauge and the radiator fans?
dude just disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and it resets.
U might have an air pocket %26amp; need 2 bleed the system

Explain the negative feedback control of body temperature using thermoreceptors, the hypothalamus, & temperatu?

Negative Feedback - keeps the internal environment constant!

Receptor - detects the stimulus (whether the temperature is too high or too low)

. . then

Processing centre - recieves ther information and coordinates a response.

. . . then

Effector - produces the response which conteracts the change (the level will either decrease or increase)!!

hope this is some help.

  • Why don't we all live under-ground in a controlled temperature?

If all human beings lived underground where temperature is controlled, would that not save a lot of energy?

So why don't we do that? Why don't we all live under-ground in a controlled temperature?
    1. It will take a lot of convincing to make the whole population abandon their homes to live underground.

    2. The cost of maintaining the temperature, building the housing schemes and keeping the ground from falling upon us is unimaginably huge.

    3. How we will get oxygen underwater? We will need to create our own atmosphere! Pumping air in and out of underground tunnels around the world will definitely use up a lot of energy.

    4. Traveling from country to country will be excessively difficult and dangerous.

    5. Because of loss of familiar scenery and wildlife, this huge change in lifestyle will bring a lot of problems such as depression.

    6. It will probably be difficult to get animals such as cows to breed underground, because they will be so shocked. The good thing is everyone will be forced to turn vegetarian.

    7. Health problems for humans due to lack of sunlight.

    8. Everyone will starve as lack of sunlight will prevent plants from growing.

    9. By the time all of the above happens, huge amounts of people will rebel against the government for bringing this disaster upon us. Worldwide collapse.

It would probably be easier to move to another planet! Why don't we all live under-ground in a controlled temperature?
It is a good idea. Many homes in the area are partially covered by earth. Saves on electricity. Also provides some defense against serve weather, like tornado's. It is too bad we have not been doing this a long time. I think the biggest obstacle is human vanity. After all some of our ancestors lived underground or in caves or other natural earth shelters.
Where would everyone live while they were ripping their houses up and moving them underground. Also the further down we go, the less circumference or surface area. Plus the cost and technology. What are you smoking? I thought of like 4 reasons in 20 seconds. Im sure there are thousands more.
I think it would be hard to find your house/hole at night.

  • How to control body temperature through yoga?

You can't control your body temperature through yoga. Your body temperature is automatically regulated; your body will always adjust your temperature until you are at roughly 98.6deg Fahrenheit (or higher if your body is producing a fever) under normal functioning. Yoga may make you hotter for a very short time but your body will quickly make you sweat out the heat. You can't do anything about that.

    How do moose control temperature?

is this a serious questionHow do moose control temperature?
I am assuming that you mean thermoregulate. They have to worry about being too cold rather than too warm and they do this by having little tissue on their legs, which requires little blood supply. By keeping the majority of the blood away from the extremeties, they can preserve heat. Their sheer bulk also helps in that they loose heat slowly, along with a thick, coarse coat. The fermentation in their gut also produces heat which helps warm them. in the summer when it does get warm, they just avoid the sun by staying in the shade or standing in water. How do moose control temperature?

Its for a science course. How do hare's ears help control thier body temperature in the summer?
THE BLOOD FLOWS TRU THE EARS AND THE AIR COOLS THE BLOOD...How do hare's ears help control thier body temperature in the summer?
A hare's large ears have what is called a large surface area to volume ratio. This means that the relatively small amount of actual tissue has been formed into a relatively thin and there fore large area.

This large area is full of tiny capillaries through which blood flows very near the skin (as the ear is relatively thin) . In summer when the temperatures are high and the animal gets hot, it can lose heat by radiation ie the heat from the capillaries moves to the relatively cooler air and thus cools the hare down. As an animals temperature increases, reactions occur that dilate the blood vessels near the surface allowing increased blood flow to increase the amount of heat that can be lost. Conversely when the environment cools, the blood vessels constrict, retaining heat within the body core to keep the animal warm by preventing heat loss. hope this helps

Can user control the outlet temperature of air conditioner?

Aircons are already designed to work at temperature limits. The compressor and the expansion valve inside the aircon determine how low can the operating temperature be. But aircons are equip with thermostats, device which sense temperature and signal the compressor to motor to stop working or go slower if a certain temperature is reached.

Actually when you rotate the selector in the air conditioner you are adjusting the thermostat at what temperature it is going to signal the compressor. Supposing the thermostat fails and the compressor operates nonstop, the airconditioner cannot cool the air without limit. Ultimately it will reach a temperature where it can no longer cool the air, because it is the design limit computed by the one who made the aircon.

Explain negative feedback control of body temperature?

using thermoreceptors, the hypothalamus, %26amp; the temperature control center.Explain negative feedback control of body temperature?
The relatively constant conditions within organisms, or the physiological processes by which such conditions are maintained in the face of external variation.

Similar homeostatic controls are used to keep factors such as temperature and blood pressure nearly constant despite changes in an organism's activity level or surroundings. Such systems operate by detecting changes in the variable that the system is designed to hold constant and initiating some action that offsets any change. All incorporate a sensor within the system that responds when the actual condition differs from the desired one, a device to ensure that any action taken will reduce the difference between actual and desired, and an effector to take the needed action as directed. The crucial aspect is that information is fed back from effector to sensor and action is taken to reduce any imbalance—hence the term negative feedback.

Body temperature in mammals is regulated by a sensor that consists of cells within the hypothalamus of the brain. Several effectors are involved, which vary among animals. These include increasing heat production through nonspecific muscle activity such as shivering; increasing heat loss through sweating, panting, and opening more blood vessels in the skin (vasodilation); and decreasing heat loss through thickening of fur (piloerection) and curling up. Humans sweat, but they retain only a vestige of piloerection (“goose flesh”).

While the homeostatic mechanisms described involve the neural and endocrine systems of mammals, it is clear that such arrangements pervade systems from genes to biological communities, and that they are used by the simplest and the most complex organisms.

What is the steps to control the temperature inside the closed vessel? suggest me if any books are available.?

A thermostat will do for fairly crude control.

If you need closer control, though, you should get a PID controller.

You will need to have as short a sensing lag as possible, or else the system could 'ring' [oscillate in temp].

I just got a new refrigerator and am wondering what to set the temperature control -- from 0 to 10?

It's a Hotpoint refrigerator (parent company GE) and is just a regular fridge with the freezer on top, fridge on bottom. It has a temp control knob that goes from 0 to 9 (9 is the coldest). Supposedly the recommended setting is 5, but I've been keeping it at 7. What is the true temperature I should keep my fridge? I don't know how cold 7 actually is, but 5 seems too warm.I just got a new refrigerator and am wondering what to set the temperature control -- from 0 to 10?
Most health codes require refrigerated food to be below 40 degrees in commercial applications for food safety. Anything above 40 promotes spoilage and growth of unhealthy bacteria. Get a refrigerator thermometer, and you will see that anything above 40 is marked in red as a spoilage zone.

I would recommend 35 - 40 degree range. I found a link that states that the FDA recommend no more than 41 degrees for food safety.

Freezer at zero, food compartment at 40

We keep our fridge at just above 32 degrees F, but many say that anywhere from 35 F to 40 F should be sufficient. The only way to know for sure what the temperature is would be to buy an inexpensive refrigerator/freezer thermometer. You should be able to find one at Wal-Mart, Target, Kmart, etc. Just put it on the front of a shelf so you can check it regularly in case you need to readjust. How often you open the door is one thing that will cause temperature variations.
anything above 4 degrees celcius will keep the food safe to eat.
this also happens with my refrigerator so i kept it on the highest but maybe you should try putting it on 8

Is there such a thing as an a/c with timer and minimum temperature control?

I have a vacation rental in Hawaii. There is no heat or a/c in the unit (or in my home). This is customary since temperatures rarely get above 85 or below 60 degree F. I wanted to provide a/c for renters for those few hot days. However, I don鈥檛 want to have it run 24/7 since electricity on island is very very expensive (ranging from 34 to 57 cent per kilowatt depending on the price of oil). Providing a/c to keep the unit at 60 degrees is cost prohibitive. I would be okay with a/c to 72 degrees and only when the renters are in the unit and not at night since there is no need. I would like it to shut off automatically after running for a couple of hours. Is there such a thing as an a/c with timer and minimum temperature control?
I don't know about the cost but I have seen commercial systems where all the controls are in a locked box so you can set it up the way you have described; on the walls you have temp. sensors instead of thermostats.

Note: even if electricity was dirt cheap, you don't ever want to put it on 60 degrees. The unit will last considerably longer if it is set so that it will cycle on and off; not run constantly.

The rhythm method is by far one of the most ineffective ';birth control'; methods ever. Old school Catholic families(the super large families) are essentially built off of the rhythm method.

Are all types of doctor prescribed birth control out of the question? There are several methods like the pill, the shot, the patch, the ring as well as the copper IUD.

You can try a diaphram but those are best used with a condom or another form of birth control.

There's the female condom, contraceptive sponge, cervical cap, and spermicide.

Great Thermostat you have!. You need to turn it clockwise to turn up the temperature. Can you tell me what thermometer you have?. If you have one of those 'dial up' ones, they tend to just brake on you, and give wrong reading. Try and get a Electronic thermometer, they are more wise.

Sounds like the thermostat is bad. That would be where I would start. Not sure how to take it out but Sears can probably tell you if you call them. They may also know if it is the thermostat.

    Good luck.
The thermostat is bad. Sears services their own makes, though I would get an estimate for the work from them first; since stoves start at around $200 it might be cheaper to replace it (sad to say).
It sounds as though you need a new thermostat for your oven. It should be with a new thermocouple.

Also, your temperature limiter sensor needs to be replaced.(It keeps the heating element from heating if the temperature is too high in the oven.

Solid state relays are very reliable, so I would not suspect that.

Will Blown-In wall insulation help with temperature control of my house?

I live in a one story single family house in the bay area of CA. One of the room, unfortunately assigned to the baby, in the house is especially cold at night and very cold at winter. I can tune up the heater, but then the rest of the house will be very hot in order to keep That room not-cold.

I wonder does anyone have experience with blown-in wall insulation, and can share with me how much it helps. I am sure our house is not side wall insulated, and we have efficient insulation in the attic.

Thank you very muchWill Blown-In wall insulation help with temperature control of my house?
So I understand you have central heating? It's hard with this system to regulate the temperature if a specific spot is colder (hotter would be as simple as closing the vent).

We have a problem in my house in our room, it's always freezing in the winter. The only solution is a independent heating unit (whether plugged in or you install one on the 220v).

So to answer your question, yes better insulation would help, but if the house is already well insulated, it won't change anything. Will Blown-In wall insulation help with temperature control of my house?
Yes, you can never have too much insulation whether you live in a hot or a cold climate; insulation lets you maintain an inside temperature different from the outside temperature at the lowest cost.

In the cold room, you should also carefully inspect around the windows for cracks. It is amazing how much warm air can escape through the smallest crack. The solution? A $2.00 caulking gun and a $4.00 tube of good caulking.

If the room is still too cool for baby, your least expensive solution is probably a thermostatically controlled electric baseboard heater. Buy one at least 30 - 36'; long, 1500 watts, 110 volts. Then you can keep the whole house cooler while maintaining baby's room at a more ideal temp. Locate the baseboard heater along the wall under the window.
Wall insulation will definitely help you control the temperature in your home. Not only will this type of insulation help keep your home warm in the winter it can also be effective in keeping your home cooler in the summer.
Any insulation in the walls will help maintain the temperatures. Blown in is the cheapest and easiest.
Also double-glazing the windows will very much help.

At most books store they have auto section, you can buy a book call ';Chilton's repair manual'; this is a book which has specific info on Type of car and the year and model. Dealers will sell you the same type of book but it is more expensive, it is for their trained mechanics. There are other manual also, other then Chilton.

Most cars have Air conditioning and heating systems for summer and winter.

    Summer:

Once the car is running you turn an air conditioner, after setting the temperature that you like to have inside the car. The air conditioner provides cold air until the set temperature is reached.

In winter you do the same thing if it is automatic system it will sense the need and turn on the heating system and provide hot air until the require set temperature is reached. The heater is usually part of the blower and it takes hot water from the radiator.

ones, left for hot, right for cold. All of the sudden today the hot water stopped coming out. If you turn it to the left, nothing comes out. If you turn it to the right, cold comes out. The rest of the house has hot water, and I made sure everything was tightened, but it still won't work. Her is a picture of what it looks like. Thanks !!!!

if its a delta like in your link, then more than likely you have seal that runs along a ball that controlls the temp and water pressure some times they go bad and go in side the ball, you need a delta repair kit, but thats only if u put the right pick upWhat could be wrong with the temperature control handle on my bathtub faucet? My tub has one of those round?
The unit show in your link is for a Delta Faucet, I would assume that your fixture is one that prevents scalding (water getting to hot). The link below will take you to a page for a similar unit as the one in your link. Click on download and you will open a PDF manual.

I am not a plumber but my guess is that the the valve assembly needs to be replaced (Part Number RP46704). Something within this valve seems to think the water is to hot and has sut the supply off.

    Good luck
The first thing I would try is..take the handle off [the knob and the adjustment assy] and try turning the shaft left and right with a pair of pliers [gently]. If you have hot water then, you should just have to replace the knob itself...this is really just an educated guess..I'm not a plumber.
You need to ask a Plumber, I am a just a bean counter.

Can cold temperature effect birth control?

Left birthcontrol in the car for about 1-2 hrs in the cold. when came inside house, took them out and they are like soooo cold to the touch. are they still effective? i know that it lists to store between 62-74, and i know for sure if left in hot weather that would be defitnate no. but is that cold weather a problem??? i dont want to get anything happening! Can cold temperature effect birth control?
How cold is cold? An hour or two shouldn't make a big difference to the chemical make up of the pill, but if it was close or below freezing, I would call a pharmacist to check for sure if they will be effective.

I use the Remington T-Studio and it works great! It is 1'' and great for curling and flipping but can also get your hair super straight. Mine is naturally curly and flips at the ends and it gets it perfectly straight. Is cheap, only around $50 and you can find it at Walmart. It is very durable also. Both my mom and I use it and it has lasted almost over three years and is still working like we just bought it. It isn't big and bulky either, so it is very portable. My fiance's little sister and some of my friends use it as well. It is a really great product. It as a LCD temperature control with a lot of different settings. I use 300 so it isn't to hot or not hot enough. It isn't pink thought, it is baby blue and silver, but it is totally worth it. You should check it out.

How do I change the temperature control from Celsius to Fahrenheit?

I have a Hyundai Sonata 2003. My car has digital temperature control and it was using F, but after my car was worked on and the battery unplugged it switched to C. I read my car manual, it says nothing about this. I had the work done by a good friend who's a former mechanic, so he knew how to fix my car but not about changing the temperature controls and I don't want to have to take it to the dealer if I can help it. Anyone know the solution here? How do I change the temperature control from Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Yes, hold the temp down button down three seconds or more with the AMB button pushed also. This should change it back to F. Page 1-73 in your manual. It works, we have to do it all the time! How do I change the temperature control from Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Push in and hold the ambient temperature button. Then, while holding the ambient temp button in, also press in and hold the cooler temperature button. After a few seconds the display should switch over.

How do you reset the temperature control box in a refrigerator?

I have temperature problem with my 3 year old Kenmore (Whirlpool) side by side refrigerator being too warm. Between 5 and 10 degrees hotter from where it should be. The defective part is the control box which is the part where you set the temperature but I really can't replace it right now. I had a technician come over and I noticed he did some type of reset on the temperature control panel but I didn't bother to ask what buttons he pushed and for how long. My refrigerator is working fine now and I figured I could continue doing this every time the temperature went up. I was told the reason the refrigerator is not cooling is because there is frost build up in the freezer and when this happens the control box does not allow the temperature in the refrigerator to get cold.

Does closing blinds affect temperature control?

I stay in an upper floor bedroom, but the windows face a cliff side so I rarely get direct sunlight during the day (usually in the morning). I was wondering if closing my blinds while I'm using my AC will help with temperature control. Basically I want to use an AC unit I have to get the room down to a nice temperature, turn it off and turn it back on again when it gets too hot, and I want to maintain the coolness for as long as possible.Does closing blinds affect temperature control?
Closing the blinds will help keep the cool air in and the heat from out side out.

Using a fan to stir the air will help.

That way you can turn the ac up to 78 and keep the same temperature.Does closing blinds affect temperature control?
Yes it helps more then if you had no blinds. Buying some curtains would help also. Being on the upper floor, the cool air from your a/c ( window unit I'm guessing?) could be going under the door in your room. You can stick a large towel down there to help. And you could stick aluminum foil in the windows or reflective tint to help reflect the suns heat. Keep the flu closed on the fire place, Install another layer of insulation in the attic, etc.
Closing a blind helps to retain heat.So the temperature will go up slightly.Opening a window would be better.

  • Furnace On 2nd Floor-Temperature Control Problem?

We own a townhome which we bought in the summer so had no idea about this lovely problem we are now having. The townhome is two stories with the furnace on the second floor. This time of year is just awful. The thermostat is on the first floor and we can only set it to 65 degrees or else you can't even go upstairs it is so insanely hot! We have all the vents closed which are on the ceiling upstairs which doesn't seem to make a difference. The first floor has all it's vents on the floor and it is absolutely freezing down there. We have to have a space heater running constantly which is killing us with the electric bill and it doesn't even make that much of a difference. We are always bundled up with blankets down there.

We've had a couple furnace guys come in to look at it and haven't been any help.

Is there anything we can do to try and even the temp out throughout the house?Furnace On 2nd Floor-Temperature Control Problem?
leave the fan switch on '; on '; while running the heater %26amp; put a fan at the top of the stairs %26amp; blow that hot air down stairs.Furnace On 2nd Floor-Temperature Control Problem?
Having one thermostat in a home like that is always a problem. Even having a well balanced duct system will result in a 3 - 5 degree difference from the upstairs to the downstairs.

You would have the best control if they had separate heating/cooling systems.

Another way is to have zone dampers installed so that you could use one heating/cooling system and control the areas you want to condition.

The expense depends on the way the duct system is designed. It could be easy or very difficult.

Another problem that can make your situation worse is excessive infiltration.

Leaks in the home causing a chimney effect. You could have leaks in the upper area and a lot of cold air entering in the lower area.

If you are in an area with snow fall does the snow stay on the roof or melt off readily indicating a lot of heat loss into the attic?

Explain how sweating helps to control body temperature?

When you sweat your excess body heat is carried, via the water in your sweat, to the surface of your skin. There it is allowed to evaporate off of your body and it carries away excess heat with it.

This is also why you feel colder when you are wet on a windy day, that water is still absorbing some of your body heat through your skin and evaporating it away.Explain how sweating helps to control body temperature?
sweat cools off your skin when it evaporates on a hot day. Your core temperature never gets dangerously hot unless you're dehydrated and don't sweat. But that creates a whole lot of new problems ;)

Should I change the ';air temperature control module'; or the fan motor first to fix my car's climate control?

Ok, so here's the deal. The fan used to stay on all the time (I couldn't shut it off, even if the console was ';off';), but now it won't come on. So nothing comes out, but... only when the car isn't moving. If the car is moving, especially on the highway, cold air comes out when the a/c is on and hot air comes out when the heat is on. So... I'm not a mechanic, but if the appropriate air comes out when the car is moving but the fan just doesn't come on, I'm a little concerned that my mechanic is just trying to get more money out of me, even though he's been a very reliable mechanic in the past. Oh, not sure if it makes any difference, it's a '99 Chrysler 300M Please help. Thanks.Should I change the ';air temperature control module'; or the fan motor first to fix my car's climate control?
The fan motor is extremely easy to test and certainly not necessary to replace it just to see if it's the problem.

It's also easy to test for voltage at this motor with the control set at different fan speeds.

This is a concern that should be easy to diagnose and swapping out parts to find the cause is ridiculous - and expensive.Should I change the ';air temperature control module'; or the fan motor first to fix my car's climate control?
i would check that the fuse and wiring on blower moter. it could be short to power at one time now blower doesnt work at all, check for open in wiring . check the blower by hot wiring it to the battery if blower does not work the blower moter is shot .yes check your air temp control.it could have cable or vacuum off of it check that before taking temp control off
under the passenger side of the dash, you will see the blower motor, a circular metal thing. you'll have a few wires going into it. remove the connector and hook up a test lamp to the big wires. turn the fan on high and see if the test lamp illuminates. if it does, then the blower motor is inop and you should replace it. if it does not, than it's either a wiring issue or an controller issue. have a mechanic fix it for you. the only thing you'll be able to do is a blower motor

What is automatic temperature control in washers? Is it important?

I'm looking at models from LG and from Whirlpool, and I noticed that some of the models in the same price range compare but the one from LG (WM2455HW ) does not have temperature control, although the one from Whirlpool (WFW9200SQ) has. I've read in several places that automatic temperature control is important but I don't understand how exactly it works since both models seem to be giving controls (about 5 levels) to set the water temperature. I'm interested in buying the model from LG (Whirlpool is good but is most likely not going to fit in my laundry area). Is it really that important that I should consider paying up for it? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks! What is automatic temperature control in washers? Is it important?
I've learned to buy a machine that gives me control over temp, water level and agitator speed. Hot,warm and cold;low medium and high; low-(delicates) and high-(towels and jeans). These 3 manually adjustible wash parameters have been included on most upper-end machines since the '60's! Today's machines try to automate these features at the expense of your intelligence and wholly to seperate you from your money! The more 'auto control' you buy-the more expensive the repair. It's all a coup to dumb you down to seperating you from every possible dollar you have. What is automatic temperature control in washers? Is it important?
My machine has automatic temperature control and from what I see it doing, all that means is that it mixes cold water, warm water and hot water alternatively to maintain the temperature selected. So, I see the hot water hose pumping water in the drum, it shuts off and then the cold water hose starts pumping in water, then it shuts off and both hot and cold pump in the water simultaneously depending on the temperature selection. I paid for it but wind up washing most of my clothing in cold water to save energy so I don't use that feature very often.

Is there something that can keep it at a constant 75 degrees and not go over 80? www.bigappleherp.com sells a thermostat. You plug your heat source into it, and put a sensor at your cresties basking spot. Set the thermostat to the optimum temperature and it will shut the heat lamp off when the temperature reaches the desired degrees, then turn it back on when the temp drops. I use them for all of my herps. They work wonders! They sell them at pet stores too, but they are cheaper online.Reptile Temperature Control?

  • Freshwater temperature Control!!?

I have a 10 gallon tank (got from mom, I've already asked a couple other questions about it here), anyway, I think my biggest problem is keeping the temperature under control. I have a heater that will turn on and off at different levels, but it is so warm out right now (and nobody in Portland seems to think we actually need air conditioning) that I can't keep the temperature low enough. I've tried putting the tank in the darkest corners of my apartment, yet it will still spike to 82+ degrees during the day, then fall back into the range where the heater can control it at night. Im a busy person so sometimes I can come home and the temperature has risen 4 degrees!!........is there such a thing as aquarium air conditioners?Freshwater temperature Control!!?

Try turning OFF the heater. Leaving it on will just contribute more heat to the water.

Try floating some frozen water bottles on the surface of the tank where the filter output can reach it. That way the output will disperse the coldness throughout the tank.

if the temperature doesn't go up higher then 84 degrees, and you keep just regular tropicals, i wouldn't worry to much about it

all my tanks go up to 86 degrees in the summer, but if higher, i definitely keep it down by turning on the AC

    other options are

putting in water bottles, which you have had in the freezer

or putting on a fan directly onto the water surface

or as alreayd mentioned a chiller
i have that same problem with my 10gal in my room i just leave it

but im ganna put some ice in a zip lock or a frozen bottle and put it in the water

i turned off my heater and i dont turn on the light it helps a lil i got a catfish in it so he dont need light
Yes you could try the ice but if you have a tank light you might try turning it off for a little bit. In my turtle tank the temperature got too hot so I would turn off the light for a whille and it would go down to about 78F
The only advice I have for you cooling your aquarium is using at least two ice trays and just dip them in your tank, the ice should float to the surface and the temperature should drop after the ice has melted.
Depending on fish you have you can take you night time temp up to 80-81 degrees then you won't have as much temp changes.

I keep my cichlid tank at 80 year round.

How are they going to manage this?

What will they do when Mother Nature decides otherwise?

And the proponents say they aren't trying to control the climate!

Apparently the U.S may agree to this proposal!

The lunacy of such proposals astounds me!Temperature control gone mad?
Pre-industrial. Like the little ice age? Why on earth would anyone want that, I wonder.

Its just a tax scheme. With the sunspot cycle going into a phase that usually coincides with cool temperatures, we may yet get to see the fools embarrassed both by cold weather, and a realization that warmer is a good thing. I hope so, I enjoy seeing fanatical self righteous hypocrites shoot themselves in the foot.Temperature control gone mad?
Your link was very vague about what was actually being proposed. Obviously you can't legislate temperatures and I'd be surprised if anyone is actually proposing that. If there are any concrete proposals associated with this suggestion (and your link didn't really say if there were) then they are probably caps on greenhouse gas emissions, rather than temperatures.

I think people are more trying to keep the climate from getting OUT OF CONTROL than they are of actively controlling the climate.
I agree considering we don't know what the average global temperature has been over the past 12,000 years. Most people want it to be no higher then what it was during the mini ice age when food was scarce and people were revolting.

Considering that every time that man has tried to control the environment he fails. Look at how well we have stopped the annual floods World wide. Look at how nature takes over abandoned areas.
It seems pretty unwise to destroy the remarkably stable climate that has supported the growth of modern human civilisation over the last 12,000 years or so since the last ice age, but with our massive output of greenhouse gases in the last 150 years or so, that is exactly what we're doing. Advising that we stop doing that seems eminently sensible to me.
Lunacy is when deniers deliberately fog the issue by trying to create confusition between control of the climate and prevention of a disaster.
How in the world is those idiots going to adjust the Earth

Only One Temperature control on my fridge?

i just bought a new fridge, it is a maytag with a top freezer. the model is, MTN1854VS. I didnt notice at the time of purchase that it only has one temperature control and its in the fridge. The freezer doesnt have its own temperature control? ive never noticed this before with any other fridge? is this going to cause problems at somepoint as far as the fridge being to cold or the freezer to warm, etc etc. I have 30 days to return the fridge, would you recommend me doing so and getting a fridge with dual temp controls??Only One Temperature control on my fridge?
There are a lot of Fridge/ Freezers that only have one thermostat. Your fridge takes it's temperature from the freezer. Your F/F has a small flap, which is controled via the thermostat in the chiller (telling it when to open %26amp; close). I don't exactly know how your freezer is controlled (never worked on one of yours as here in the UK we don't have Maytags!) but it will be either :

    a. A built in control which switches the freezer off at -18oC (0 F)

    b. The freezer begins to refrigerated long before the fridge (for a set amount of time) %26amp; then that flap opens. When the fridge gets down to temperature the thermostat closes that flap %26amp; turns off the freezer. It sounds bizarre, as it's not certain if the freezer is down to temp. However, here in the UK most up %26amp; down F/F are controlled in this manner, %26amp; few (if none) have problems with temperature because of this.

The short answer is that you shouldn't be worried about it having one thermostat, it won;t effect the performance of your fridge/ freezer %26amp; %26amp; will be just as good as one with two stats.

    Hope That Helps!

-----------------------Only One Temperature control on my fridge?
you said this is a new refrigerator. when it was delivered there should have been an operating manual as well as a receipt for the purchase. Contact the store where it was purchased(phone # on receipt) and speak with the salesperson that sold you the item or his supervisor. that individual should be able to answer all your questions, and if needed direct you to where you can get an additional operation manual (if needed) and also direct you to the 800 phone no. for your nearest maytag repair center if needed.
I wouldn't recommend doing anything until I asked a professional why there's only one, and the pluses and minuses of it.

I'm also guessing the answer is in the owner's manual.

Do your research. Then make the decision. You liked it when you bought it.

Temperature control nob does nothing on my 98 Bravada.?

My air conditioning was not working so I decided to check the fuse. I removed the wrong one at first. It was the radio/battery fuse. Now it's like the climate control doesn't know what to do. It cycles through blowing warm air and then hot air time after time.

I hope some of you auto gurus have an answer for me because I'm sumped!

I'll say thanks for the answers in advance. They will all be appreciated.Temperature control nob does nothing on my 98 Bravada.?
Unless you have climate control, there is no computer on your temp control system. It's just a cable. Chances are the temp door is vacuum controlled and there is a vacuum leak, or it is controlled by a small servo motor which is acting up. If you don't have a shop manual o heater air conditioning experience, you have very little chance of figuring this out. The good news is, an experienced shop can probably fix it very quickly, and let you get used parts if possible.Temperature control nob does nothing on my 98 Bravada.?
i'm not to sure but it sounds like your computer may be being sent the wrong info, so it regulates as it sees necessary however it could also be the contacts on the switch itself messing it up(if your switch is an all in one style(slider)). another thing that probably wouldn't hurt to have checked is your thermostat, that often can cause a temperature iincreaser drop if it is stuck open or closed. especially if you car seems to overheat more then usual or if it doesn't seem to heat up fast enough according to your gauge.

  • How important is it to maintain a controlled temperature when determining refraction index?

Well there is the technical answer and the practical answer to this question.

Is refractive index dependent on temperature? Yes

Variations in temperature do effect the refractive index of compounds. This is largely due to the fact that a materials density and viscosity are dependent on temperature, and changes to these physical properties ultimately influence the refractive index.

Practically speaking the temperature dependence is not very strong. Although you will see changes due to temperature, the changes are not very drastic. Usually many of the economical RI instruments don't actively control temperature. Rather the light source inside heats up the instrument component to a nominal temperature close to 25-30C.

List at least one other factor that might control temperature. Describe how you might quantify it.?

I wish I knew what the original reason was so I do not repeat it, however, here is one good one:

*solar radiation- incoming long wave radiation from the sun warms the ground which in turn releases energy and warms the air around it (terrestrial radiation) through such processes as conduction and convection. You can quantify this through use of the solar constant which gives an ideal estimate of how much energy the Earth absorbs from the Sun per unit area.

Blood glucose and temperature control .. please help!!!?

Why is it important that the blood glucose levels and temperature of mammals are kept at a constant level? What would happen if this system should fail?Blood glucose and temperature control .. please help!!!?
Blood sugar levels are a way of providing energy to muscles.

If there is too much blood sugar there is a risk of diabetics becoming VERY ill (coma), the same if there is too little. For the average person this could lead to a person acquiring type 2 diabetes IF the variation is too great for too long a period of time.

Temperature control is also essential. Many reactions within our bodies are enzyme controlled and these ';chemicals'; operate best at about 36 C. Our body cells also work best at this same temperature. When things go wrong and we get ill, our body chemistry goes haywire and we get a high temperature (fever) due to our immune system going into overdrive. This is a way of indicating to others that we have something wrong!!

If we get too hot, we sweat and if the temperature continues to rise we be hyperthermic. Heat stroke may occur.

If we get too cold, we shiver and if our temperature gets too low we get hypothermia and our body starts to shut down.

Very young babies have a problem with temperature control, which is why they must be monitored very carefully too ensure they do not get too hot or cold.

I control my neighbor's heat. How do I end a dispute over temperature setting?

Is there an inexpensive way to allow the upstairs tenant to control her own heat? It's oil heat, and my brother had mentioned there was a way to install a blower or something that would give her control of her own heat. I'm baking because I have to keep the heat up in the 80s when I like it in the 60s. Help me please.I control my neighbor's heat. How do I end a dispute over temperature setting?
You can install dampers and blowers in her ducts and wire them through a thermostat upstairs. You might then want to shut off some of your vents downstairs, but there is not a way to add heat to her apartment without running your common furnace. You would have to add a pretty elaborate system to make all of that work perfectly.

I am not sure what you mean by oil heat. Oil heat is just the fuel that burns. You are not telling us if it is a forced air furnace or a boiler.

If it is a boiler with radiaters then YES you can definitely add a thermostat or several in her apartment to control the flow of hot fluid to her radiaters. You will still have to fire your boiler in order to provice the heat, but hot water or steam systems can be controlled by zone quite easily but not for free.I control my neighbor's heat. How do I end a dispute over temperature setting?
First ask yourself: Who pays the bill? Is it shared by percentage of use or just split in half? If you have a landlord, then approach him and find out if there is a possibility that the meter's can be separated....If you open your windows or turn on the air, then you can cool down your space, but it may cost you a lot more money.Since you control the Temperature, perhaps you and your neighbor can come to an understanding about the setting...say set it on 70 degrees...10 degrees above what you prefer and 10 degree below what your neighbor prefers...yet a fair deal. If you want to be cooler...then wear less clothes...and your neighbor can wear more clothes to keep warmer.
You mentioned a blower so i am assuming your are talking about forced air.

Turn off your downstairs vents if the vents are not adjustable then you can get magnetic covers very cheap. This will force more air to the upstairs vents.

It would be a good idea to move the therostat upstairs too this is easy. you will have to run a wire up stairs or they also sell wireless versions but they are expensive.
maybe get an electric baseboard heater for the upstairs tenant to use to keep the room she is in nice and toasty, and charge em based on the average wattage used by the unit per day, could even have them pay for the unit so they can pick the most energy efficent model they would like. You should be able to get an estimate from someone who sells them, I would think on how much it would cost to run yearly.
Depends on if it is hydronic (water) or FHA (air). Either way you should be able to set up a 2 zone system. It may cost a little or... (depends on how its setup but you should end up saving on your fuel bill so...

Well since you said behind the temperature controls i assume your referring to the knobs to the instrument panel. For the instrument panel you will need to remove the entire panel and trim along with the wires behind it. As for the panel with the knobs it usually snaps in around the edges. You will need to pry gently around the edges.

Can our bodies control which temperature we feel?

If you take a cold hand and press it against the warm part of your body thinking that you're using it to cool off that warm part, you feel the cold, and if you do it thinking that you're warming up that cold hand. . .how is it that we can control that? Try it, you can only feel one temperature at a time. Can our bodies control which temperature we feel?
Look at this question from a physics standpoint. When we feel cold, we feel heat being absorbed, or an endothermic reaction from a chemistry standpoint. When we feel warmth, we feel heat (or energy because heat is a form of energy) being given off or an exothermic reaction. When you put a cold hand on a warm part of your body and you feel cold, it is because you're hand is absorbing more heat/energy than the warm part of your body is giving off. If you feel warmth, your body is giving off more heat/energy than your hand is absorbing. So in reality we can't control which temp we feel. It all depends on the temp difference between your hand and that warm part of your body

Does a thermostat regulate the temperature of the coolant or just control the flow of coolant?

It does not directly regulate the temperature but regulating it by way of controlling the flow of the coolant. Bigger flow results to less temperature and smaller flow leads to higher temperature.Does a thermostat regulate the temperature of the coolant or just control the flow of coolant?
The thermostat regulates the TEMPERATURE of the coolant by regulating the FLOW of the coolant! In a 'cold' engine, the thermostat should be 'closed'. This 'slows' the FLOW of the coolant, so that the engine will warm-up quickly! As the engine, and the coolant WARM, the thermostat OPENS, so as to distribute ALL of the HEAT from the engine, into the radiatior, and, into the AIR that flows through the radiator!

If the thermostat 'sticks' in the OPEN position, it will take 'forever' to get 'heat' to the INSIDE of the vehicle! If it 'sticks' in the CLOSED position, the vehicle may overheat, in surprisingly short order!

    One further note...

The water-pump must be doing it's job... If not... it can be hard to decide whether or not the thermostat is good or bad!Does a thermostat regulate the temperature of the coolant or just control the flow of coolant?
got to say the answer to your question is yes to both but only when starting,it doesnt regulate the temperature when the engine is hot, what the thermostat does is when the engine is cold it closes and isolates the majority of coolant in the system,,there is only a limited amount of coolant available when a cold engine is started(it therefore warms and heats the engine up much quicker)as the engine warms the thermostat expands and allows more coolant to enter the system gradually.

without the thermostat it would take several miles of driving before your engine reached its working temperature
The thermostat regulates the temperature of the coolant. This is it's primary job. It does it by regulating the flow of the coolant through the engine and radiator
    flow flow
In a way it does both. Thermostats open at a set temp, such as 195 degrees for example. When you start your car and the engine is cold the thermostat is closed. this allows the engine to heat up. this is because the coolant is not circulating into the radiator and cooling down and then going back to the engine. once the engine has reached a predetermined temp, the coolant in the block is also this temp, the thermostat opens up allowing the coolant to freely circulate thus keeping your engine at a steady temp. One sure fire way to know your thermostat is no good is if your engine never warms up and always stays cold. pretty much all thermostats now are considered fail-safe. That is when they fail, they fail in the open position so your engine doesn't overheat doing major damage in the process.
Johnny b good is wrong... Most common temp. of a thermostat is 180 degrees the temperature of the coolant can be much higher... The main purpose of the thermostat is to get the coolant up to operating temperature as fast as possible... the engine heats the coolant and when it reaches the preset temp the thermostat opens to allow the coolant to circulate through the cooling system.. The radiator fan is designed to turn on at about 220 degrees.. This keeps the system from overheating So to answer your question. The thermostat controls the flow of the coolant and the radiator fan regulates the temperature......Good Luck

How can you control a 12 volt DC fan to go on when the temperature gets hot?

I want to install a small 12 volt DC fan inside weather enclosure (containing a security camera) to protected it from the summer heat. I want the fan to automatically turn on at 95 degrees to help ventilate the camera. I can only think of installing a thermostat from an air conditioner unit inside the enclosure. Is there a better way. I have visited electronic suppy stores and can鈥檛 find anything that would help keep the camera cool. (I have only heaters for these units).

Any suggestions? How can you control a 12 volt DC fan to go on when the temperature gets hot?
your idea of a thermostat is the best option, use standard mecury switch thermostat supplied by 12 volts to the contacts and wire them in series with the fan. I did the same thing for my storage building except i had the 12volts turn on a relay, and it activated an exhaust fan.

thermostat= about 20 bucksHow can you control a 12 volt DC fan to go on when the temperature gets hot?
You might be able to use a typical light sensor. That would come on when it got light enough to turn it on and would shut it off when the light subsided. The amount of light needed to turn it on can be adjusted so that it would not just come on at dawn, but would need more or full light to activate it. When the sun is not there (night) or not real bright, the temperature would be less any how.
Some computer case fans have temperature control circuits built into the fan. One of these would only need a 12V power source.

    WK
Maybe it would be easier to have a switch nearby and just let the fan run continuously until cooler weather is here and shut it off then.

Does the airconditioner in a cavalier help control engine temperature?

Okay lets set straight some wrong info that I see. Your Cavalier DOES NOT have a clutch fan. It has an electric fan controlled by the computer via a relay.

What you are noticing is most likely that the temp gauge seems to run hotter when you have the AC off and are in traffic.

Your Cavalier has a thermostat that controls coolant flow to the radiator. The thermostat is set to open at 195*f.

If you have the AC off then the electric cooling fan is normally off also. As the engine reaches 195* the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow through the radiator. If you sit long enough the temperature of the coolant int he radiator will reach 195*. Since no more cold coolant will be entering the engine from the radiator, the engine temp begins to rise above 195* At a preset temp usually 225* the computer will command on the cooling fan and the temperature of the coolant will drop quickly. When the engine is back to 195* the computer will turn off the fan and the cycle will repeat.

When you have the AC turned on, the computer will turn on the electric fan all the time. The engine will never go above 195*

Hope that explains it.Does the airconditioner in a cavalier help control engine temperature?
Although the other answers so far are ultimately correct about your question. The fan on every cavalier I've seen, it is electrical (no clutch fan) however, If you have an actual issue and can give more details, that may help. There is a second fan for the air condensor that will spin up when the air conditioner is on to cool the extra heat produced by the air conditioning. Unfortunately, it is only about sufficient, not enough to pull more heat than the a/c is producing. If you want to help the heat, turn the heater on full with the vent fan on high...not a big help, but its some.Does the airconditioner in a cavalier help control engine temperature?
Unfortunately not. It actually makes the engine hotter as it creates more stress on the engine. It will also lower your fuel economy and decrease your horsepower. If it is an older cavalier the fuel economy and hp will be worse than if it is newer (the air conditioning compressor is more free running now). If is is a newer car, you probably won't even notice the fuel and hp.

I got this answer from my husband who is a mechanic so I hope this helps.
it doesnt cool the engine but it can surely make it run hotter.....the main thing controling the temperature of the engine is your clutch fan(the big fan in front of the radiator)....and the radiator.....
-No...but if you run it in stop%26amp;go traffic it may run hotter, but it doesnt control it.

It's broken, usually the contact between the grill bars and the power supply, or perhaps the grill bars are broken, sounds terminal.
Sounds as if the element has gone - all heating elements break down with use.

They are normally fairly inexpensive and quite easy to fit. Espares is a good place to look for replacemtent elements.
If the thermostat light is on then the only thing it can be is the heating element.

Is it possible to control the temperature of a place via serial ports by programming in the MATLAB software?

You'll need a temperature sensor that outputs in serial and a controller (furnace, heater, whatever) that can take serial commands. Not too likely in either case.

How does our body control body temperature?

It is done through a process called homeostasis which is controlled through a negative feedback mechanism loop. Various receptors and effectors bring about a reaction to ensure that such conditions remain favourable.

The hypothalamus acts as a receptor in regulation, by detecting fluctuations in temperature. These receptors are better known as thermoreceptors. Skin also possesses thermoreceptors which can detect the temperature of the external environment. This information is relayed to the hypothalamus which can in turn transmit nerve pulses for corrective mechanisms to occur.

Vasodilation is a corrective response where the blood vessels close to the skin surface become more dilated, meaning their is a larger surface area for heat to be lost of the external environment from the blood vessel carrying over-heated blood.

Vasoconstriction is the opposite of this and occurs when temperatures in an organism drop. The blood vessels become constricted so that minimal heat loss occurs.

The hairs on your body also play an important role in temperature regulation. A corrective response can occur where the hairs 'stand on end', and trap a layer of air between the hair and the skin. This insulation of warmer air next to the skin reduces heat lost, while a thin layer of insulation would increase heat loss.

Other corrective mechanisms are involved, such as a drop in metabolic rate and shivering when temperatures drop. How does our body control body temperature?
check thiz website out...u will be amazed =)How does our body control body temperature?
Our body temperature is controlled by hypothalamus gland present in brain....

when we feel chill or cold, it stimulates our muscles....

muscles inturn play vital role in production of heat by shivering.....

in case of hot temperature, our body becomes hot....

our skin has minute pores and sebaceous glands....

when our body cannot resist excess heat, it secretes sweat through these pores keeping body cool.....
Body temperature is maintained by following factors.

    %26gt; By regulating blood flow.

    %26gt; By shivering

    %26gt; By sweating

%26gt; By erection of hair present on body.

These are are controlled by nervous system and endocrine system. Main center of maintaining body temperature is hypothalamus.
The human body has the remarkable capacity for regulating its core temperature somewhere between 98掳F and 100掳F when the ambient temperature is between approximately 68掳F and 130掳F. This presumes a nude body and dry air.

The external heat transfer mechanisms are radiation, conduction and convection and evaporation of perspiration. The process is far more than the passive operation of these heat transfer mechanisms, however. The body takes a very active role in temperature regulation.

The temperature of the body is regulated by neural feedback mechanisms which operate primarily through the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus contains not only the control mechanisms, but also the key temperature sensors. Under control of these mechanisms, sweating begins almost precisely at a skin temperature of 37掳C and increases rapidly as the skin temperature rises above this value. The heat production of the body under these conditions remains almost constant as the skin temperature rises. If the skin temperature drops below 37掳C a variety of responses are initiated to conserve the heat in the body and to increase heat production. These include:

Vasoconstriction to decrease the flow of heat to the skin.

    Cessation of sweating.

Shivering to increase heat production in the muscles.

Secretion of nor-epinephrine, epinephrine, and thyroxine to increase heat production

In lower animals, the erection of the hairs and fur to increase insulation.
One way is by sweating. The evaporation of sweat causes a cooling effect. Also the opening of capillaries at the skins surface allow the transfer of heat.
Through Homeostasis. To be more pricise, the circualtory system changes as cellular respiration changes. So, the more exercise the more the blood vessels have to maintain a constant temperature by dilating. This process which I forgot...enables the body to pump more blood volume, this then rushes to our skin and the excess heat is taken out through perpiration.
    sweating or shivering
    The short answer is: homeostasis

鈥淗omeostasis is the ability or tendency of an organism or cell to

maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological

processes. Your normal body temperature, for example, is around 98.6

deg F. If you start to get cold you shiver. Shivering is a

physiological process designed to keep your body temperature from

dropping below 98.6 deg F. Also, you may put a coat on. This will also

help keep your body temperature from dropping, but it is not a

physiological process. Your body has many physiological processes

    designed to maintain many equilibriums.
By hormones, which controls the rate of perspiration.
