The skin's structure is adapted to protect by its thick layer of thin cells filled with keratin, it also had a low pH (quite acidic) to stop bacteria from infecting skin. sebacious glands like sweat glands secrete sebacious fluid to stop fungi infections. Also there are some good microbes that live on everybody's skin and compete with bad bacteria for resources and food, keeping them at bay.
The skin is adapted for temperature control by constricting the arteries going to the skin, saving body heat from being lost in cold temperature. Its the opposite with hot temperatures, blood arteries going to the skin open up, supplying blood very close to the skin to lose body heat, hence the body in some pale people goes red.
The skin is adapted to control water removal by sweat glands to lose excess water, also, it helps the body lose heat (also involved in temperature control). Finally, the sweat is a little salty, which makes the skin surface not a very good place for bacteria to grow in.
Hope this helps!
