Temperature control panel?

03 impala 9c1.


i notice that when i turn the temperature guage to ';front windshield defrost'; the a/c turns on.


ive been told thats normal...???? (police pkg. related?)


and if so,then i am running the a/c even when the a/c button is turned off.


as long as the ';front window defrost'; knob is turned on, then the a/c turns on? even though the a/c button is off.


i'm confused?

Normal operation. The compressor turns on to dry the air that passes over the evaporator core when the defrost is on. This helps remove moisture from the interior of the vehicle and helps prevent ';refogging'; of the windshield.


Nothing to worry about.
