After getting an outrageous electricity bill in my new flat I'm trying to get to the bottom of why it's so high. I have a storage heater in the living room which is on the night saver setting. In the kitchen is some kind of temperature controller. It says ';Room Temperature Boost Control';. What is it for? The letting agent hasn't been any help. What is ';Room Temperature Boost Control';?
Hi.
I have night storage heaters once you have learned how to use them they are o.k. On the heater there should be two control knobs.one is input and one is output. I presume they are all basiclly the same. Your electric meter should be on
ecconamy 7 or equivalant check you electric bill it will have two listings one standard rate and one off peak rate.
You need to make sure the output is turned down to zero before the time which closes the vents inside, if you don't do that heat will just pour out into the room and not be stored for the next day. If you need more heat in the day turn the output up to open the vents. The input is the tempriture control thats a bit hit and miss, I turn it to zero then turn it back untill it clicks that is when it will switch on so you will need to turn up another degree it depends how warm you like it.As for the temperature boost could be for underfloor heating which is very expensive to use.My heaters were installed as the underfloor heaters didn't work properely. You could ask the other tenants how they use there's.What is ';Room Temperature Boost Control';?
Storage heaters normally only heat up during the night using off peak electricity, they are normally full of house bricks that heat up during the night and release there heat during the day.
You need to check with your electric company what electric rates you are on, it my be possible that you are not getting the best deal for off peak electricity.
The boost control is used to turn the electric heater within the storage heater and given that it need to heat up the bricks first not a lot of heat will be generated.
